Orange wind and coastal warnings on Spain's Cádiz coast

June 12, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 1 min read

Spain's weather service AEMET issued orange-level warnings for June 12 covering the Cádiz coastline and the Strait of Gibraltar: severe wind and dangerous sea conditions.

The warnings apply to the Litoral Gaditano (the Cádiz coastal strip), the Campiña Gaditana inland area and the Strait of Gibraltar zone.

An orange alert is the second-highest level in the European warning system and means a real danger to people and property: strong gusts can topple trees and street furniture, while high waves make swimming and small-boat navigation hazardous.

The coastal warnings took effect at 6:00 AM local time, the wind warnings from 9:00 AM, covering the daylight hours of June 12.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Stay away from breakwaters and piers during high waves.
• Don't swim — rip currents are deadly in these conditions.
• Secure balcony items.
• Check ferry schedules before travelling across the Strait.
