NWS Issues Extreme Heat Warning for the Phoenix Metropolitan Area
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the Phoenix metropolitan area, bringing dangerously hot conditions with expected afternoon temperatures between 109 and 112 degrees.
The National Weather Service in Phoenix, Arizona, issued the Extreme Heat Warning on August 16 at 11:19 AM MST. The warning remains in effect from Monday at 10:00 AM until Friday at 8:00 PM MST.
A major heat risk is associated with this event, covering areas including Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek.
Overexposure during extreme heat events significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially heat stroke without intervention.
In Maricopa County, residents can call 2-1-1 to find free cooling centers, transportation, water, and additional resources. Public cooling shelters are also available in some areas.
