The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for parts of Florida and southeast Georgia, active until 8:00 PM EDT on October 5. Additional rainfall of up to 3 inches on already saturated ground could trigger flash flooding across the region.
The Flood Watch, issued by the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, FL, at 2:17 AM EDT on October 5, is scheduled to remain in effect through this evening. Forecasters warn that excessive runoff from the rain may cause flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations, as well as in urban areas and places with poor drainage.
The watch impacts multiple areas in Florida, including Baker, Coastal Duval, Coastal Nassau, Eastern Hamilton, Inland Nassau, Northern Columbia, South Central Duval, Trout River, Western Duval, and Western Hamilton. In southeast Georgia, the affected locations are Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Clinch, Coastal Camden, Coastal Glynn, Coffee, Echols, Inland Camden, Inland Glynn, Jeff Davis, Northeastern Charlton, Northern Ware, Pierce, Southern Ware, Wayne, and Western Charlton.
According to meteorological reports, additional rainfall of up to 3 inches is possible over already saturated grounds. This combination of heavy rainfall and saturated soil increases the likelihood of flash flooding. Residents living in flood-prone areas are advised to prepare for potential rising waters.
