Flood Watch Issued for Portions of Hawaii

October 8, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 1 min read

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for Niihau, Kauai, and Oahu effective through the afternoon of October 8, 2026.

A deepening area of low pressure located north of the Hawaiian Islands is drawing deep tropical moisture northward. This meteorological pattern creates a threat of heavy rain across Kauai and Oahu today, raising concerns for flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall.

Impacts from the severe weather may include closures on flood-prone roads and other low-lying areas due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Additionally, urban locations could experience more significant flooding and potential property damage resulting from rapid runoff.

Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue through the day as the deep tropical moisture moves over the state. Forecasters note that training of heavy showers containing intense rain rates will also be possible during this period.
