Flood Watch Issued for Parts of Hawaii Due to Hurricane Nolo

September 25, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for multiple islands in the United States, effective through Saturday afternoon, September 26, 2026.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch on September 24 at 4:51 PM HST, which remains in effect until September 26 at 6:00 PM HST. The alert covers the Big Island, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and Kahoolawe.

Hurricane Nolo is expected to bring heavy flooding rain to the eastern end of the state over the next few days. While the exact track of the dangerous tropical cyclone remains somewhat uncertain, significant heavy rain is likely over the windward and southeast Big Island, as well as windward Maui.

Deep moisture on the north side of Hurricane Nolo will bring heavy showers, with considerable flooding possible over portions of the Big Island on Friday and Saturday. Other islands in Maui County are at risk as well due to the slow-moving tropical cyclone.

Potential impacts include significant flooding from the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, and property damage could occur in urban or low-lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.
