The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for Maui and The Big Island, effective from August 15 at 4:25 PM HST until August 16 at 6:00 AM HST.
Hurricane Lala is continuing to bring heavy rain to the Big Island and Maui County through late tonight. Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall remains possible across the affected areas.
Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, and property damage in urban or low-lying spots could result from runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.
Rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 inches are possible over windward areas of the Big Island, with 8 to 12 inches expected over windward areas of Maui. Higher localized amounts are also possible. Additionally, heavy rain is expected to reach Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau this evening through late Sunday night.
The Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight, with conditions monitored continuously by the National Weather Service.
