The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning, a High Surf Advisory, and a High Rip Current Risk for Coastal Atlantic, Coastal Ocean, and Atlantic Coastal Cape May. The flood warning is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through early Saturday morning.
The Coastal Flood Warning, issued by NWS Mount Holly NJ, is active from 4:00 PM EDT on Wednesday, September 23, until 2:00 AM EDT on Saturday, September 26. In addition, a High Surf Advisory is in place until 6:00 PM Saturday, and a High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Saturday evening.
Forecasters expect one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Large breaking waves of 6 to 12 feet are anticipated in the surf zone, creating dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.
Impacts from the event include widespread roadway flooding in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways, which will make many roads impassable. Vulnerable structures may sustain some damage, and significant beach erosion with possible dune breaching is expected. Moderate tidal flooding could persist into the weekend, with major tidal flooding impacts possible in the back bays.
