The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning, High Surf Advisory, and High Rip Current Risk affecting Atlantic Coastal Cape May and Coastal Atlantic until Sunday.
The National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ issued a Coastal Flood Warning on September 25 at 7:33 AM EDT, which remains in effect until September 27 at 2:00 AM EDT. The event brings one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Widespread roadway flooding is expected in coastal and bayside communities as well as along inland tidal waterways, leaving many roads impassable.
In addition to the coastal flooding, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8:00 PM EDT Sunday, warning of large breaking waves of up to 12 feet in the surf zone alongside significant beach erosion and the possibility of sand dune breaching. Major tidal flooding impacts cannot be ruled out, particularly within the back bays where impacts are expected to be most severe.
A High Rip Current Risk also remains in effect through Sunday evening, creating dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. Officials note that rip currents are capable of sweeping even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur as a result of these conditions. Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to monitor rising water levels and follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials.
