The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Virginia Beach at 2:14 AM EDT on September 24. The warning remains active until 4:00 PM EDT on Friday, September 25. Forecasters expect two to three feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
Widespread flooding in vulnerable areas presents an elevated threat of property damage to waterfront homes and businesses. Water depths will be sufficient to cause numerous road closures, flood vehicles, and threaten properties as water extends inland along tidal rivers and bays.
In addition to coastal flooding, a High Surf Advisory is in effect until 7:00 AM EDT Friday, bringing large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet to the surf zone. A Beach Hazards Statement is also active through this evening due to a high risk of rip currents.
