Coastal Flood Warning and High Surf Advisory Issued for Coastal New Jersey

September 25, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Atlantic Coastal Cape May, Coastal Atlantic, and Coastal Ocean areas. The warning is in effect until Saturday, September 26, at 2:00 PM EDT, alongside high surf and rip current warnings.

The National Weather Service warns of one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This is expected to cause widespread roadway flooding in coastal and bayside communities, as well as along inland tidal waterways, rendering many roads impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may occur, and major tidal flooding impacts are possible, with the most severe impacts expected within the back bays.

Additionally, a High Surf Advisory is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT on Saturday, bringing large breaking waves of up to 12 feet to the surf zone. Significant beach erosion is expected, and the breaching of sand dunes is possible under these conditions.

A High Rip Current Risk is also active through Saturday evening. Dangerous rip currents are expected, which can sweep even experienced swimmers away from the shore and into deeper water, creating highly hazardous swimming and surfing conditions.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Do not drive vehicles through flood waters, as the water may be deeper than it appears.
• Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials.
• If caught in a rip current, relax, float, do not swim against the current, and attempt to swim parallel to the shoreline.
• Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water and obey all posted Beach Flags.
