The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning, High Surf Advisory, and High Rip Current Risk for Atlantic Coastal Cape May and Coastal Atlantic, remaining in effect through the weekend.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, issued the Coastal Flood Warning on September 25 at 6:18 AM EDT. The warning remains in effect until 2:00 AM EDT on Sunday, September 27. Additionally, a High Surf Advisory is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT Sunday, and a High Rip Current Risk continues through Sunday evening.
Forecasters report that the Coastal Flood Warning involves one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Widespread roadway flooding is expected in coastal and bayside communities, as well as along inland tidal waterways, leaving many roads impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.
Significant beach erosion is expected, with the possibility of sand dune breaching. Major tidal flooding impacts cannot be ruled out, particularly within back bays where impacts are anticipated to be most severe.
Simultaneously, the area faces a High Surf Advisory featuring large breaking waves of up to 12 feet in the surf zone, alongside dangerous rip currents capable of sweeping swimmers away from shore.
